I'm late to the party, but I have a question. I just bought a creality 40 watt laser. I am trying to learn and obviously there is a curve involved. I was looking into the minimum power and how to determine where it simply will not engrave. My issue is that when I draw a box in lightburn , there is no option for minimum power, only maximum. I only have that option when I have an image being set up to burn. Is there any possibility that you may be able to give me any guidance on how to make the determination?

Since I already use CAD software like Solidworks and Fusion 360 could one create the layout and save as a dxf or other supported formats that Lightburn uses to import that? I don't know Lightburn as I am awaiting delivery of my fiber laser now. Thanks for the great tutorials btw!

You could but you will have to use LightBurn to generate the g code for the laser. I know fusion 360 can generate g code but I’m not aware of it working on co2 lasers. I used to use that program with my Cnc machine

I stewed all night...how do I ???????? First question I had was how to delete files, can I do it in Lightburn, YES. Easy Peasy! Oooops, must have to be connected to Controller to see the list. Coffee first. Back with coffee. I inserted the flash drive into UDisk port and twisted red knob on top of laser to turn it on. So far, so good. Remove flash drive from Controller and insert in Desktop, bring up file list? But then I am not connected to Controller? I can see where this is a two person operation. Waiting on little sister to come over with her laptop. We will then let brother sleep in before calling him to come over and give us another run through.

Oh Boy. Our brother has our CO2 laser restored and running. It is in my garage. First surprise, I must remember to put my flash drive in the G something port (located on the right hand size of laser. The laser was about three inches from wall; can't see ports. Call brother, over he comes and wheels laser away from wall. He gave us a quick run through on how to load and run a file and LEFT us on our own! So...we go shopping before starting our adventure. Just to see how much we remember. Inserted flash drive in G something port. Turn red knob on top. Yeah, machine is ready to go. That's it!

Good tutorial Robert. I know this was a large piece, but if you took the same paper you used to contrast the photo taped the together and them used a fine sharpie, you could have outlined the grill and the mounting holes and traced it to the paper, then took a picture of the outline on the paper you could save some time in editing the photo. Just another way to go about it. Like the idea of using a metal fabricator to expand your capabilities. I do not have a metal shop, but had a real good client that orders from us on a regular basis really begged me to add some metal to his products, so I did some research and found someone local and now I have the ability to sell even more products.

oh something I found out cleaning the lens on another brand laser (before I purchased my Thunder Nova51). The focus lens, looking into the lens - if you can see your face looking back, that is the domed side. So when you install your lens back into the nozzle tube, if you look at the lens (end where the nozzle screws in) and you can see your face, it's in backwards.
